Orijit Sans
For the 2022 reissue of his pioneering graphic novel River of Stories, Orijit Sen commissioned November to design a new typeface based on his handwriting. The result, Orijit Sans, digitally captures the nuances of Sen’s iconic lettering style, drawn from his original writing samples. The typeface is now used not only for the book but also across the artist’s communications, memes, and comics.
Orijit Sans features four alternate versions of each glyph that cycle as you type, mimicking the texture and unpredictability of handwriting (see below for the variations in the ‘o’). This effect is powered by OpenType substitution code created by Tal Leming. The typeface comes in three weights, each referencing different drawing tools and matching the thickness of Sen’s ligne-clair style: Light, inspired by a thin Rotring pen, and Bold, closer to a Sharpie or marker.
