PhonePe Sans
PhonePe, India’s fastest growing startup, is a digital payments and financial services company headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. PhonePe’s design team reached out to November to design a new corporate typeface to be used across their platform, brand touchpoints, and advertising. PhonePe Sans is a modern humanist sans to contrast the superabundance of Grotesks in the fintech space and comes in Latin and Devanagari scripts with extensive language support.
PhonePe Sans is designed to perform well across sizes and platforms, from the smallest sizes on phone screens to the large hoardings in India’s sprawling cities. The typeface references the brand’s logo in key junctures: spurs have been removed in strategic areas without affecting readability (b, d, p, q, and u, but not in a, n, m, and r) and soft details added to traditionally hard edges (G and e). Other contextually functional features are the use of Tabular Lining figures as the default set and simplified Devanagari numerals.
PhonePe Sans was designed by Shiva Nallaperumal with Devanagari by Aarya Purohit and creative direction by November.
